Because there are so many places in Wales but I do not have much free time to visit them, I have decided to this week visit places that have been in the news. I first choose to go to Holyhead. I learnt about Holyhead here. I do not control this link so it may not work. In case it does not, it says that a man has drove his car into the sea and now his body has been found by police divers.
This place again is by the sea. It seems I cannot leave it! But this time the sea is because this is on the island of Anglesey. It is an island next to Wales but is still a part of Wales. I got here by a short ferry. Most people use Holyhead as a break from a long ferry, but I visit here itself.
This is a lighthouse called South Stack Lighthouse where there have been a over 100 ship crashes! I was puzzled to find that they like this at the museum, where they talk of nothing else. In history, Prince Llys Rhosyr is buried near here. There are also standing stones. These are big stones about 3 metres in height. They were made to stand up here in the "Bronze Age" which is 2000-1500 BC.
Here is not just history though, there are many modern shops and places to eat. It is possibly the most exciting modern place I have been so far in Wales, and has the history as well! |
